The office, My sanctuary...

Sanctuary—a building set apart for holy worship (c.1340, from Anglo-Fr). That is my prayer, that my office would be such a place. An office can look like such a manageable and mundane place: planning, e-mails, phone calls, meetings, and papers. And yet, it is so much more. It is where God has called me, and it is where worship happens.

I have much to learn in the area of the contentment that Paul speaks of in Philippians. Although it has been a struggle for me to stay while sending others, God has been teaching me over and over again that this is worship... and this is where he has called me. “I have learned to be content whatever the circumstances. I know what it is to be in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry, whether living in plenty or in want. I can do everything through him who gives me strength” (Phil 4:11-13).

Whether in the desert or on a mountain top, in the suburbs of Orlando or the streets of Khartoum, in my office or on the remotest corner of the earth, Jesus is always enough. My work in this life is to remain in Him… the day to details are secondary, and the results are in His hands.
